These files contain only components of the complete Mastery Technologies product it references. These files are not functional unless you have the original licensed programs and files. None the less, unauthorized copying (downloading) of these files is prohibited.

Do I need an upgrade and an update?
Mastery refers to various versions of its products using a Release Level number scheme. The Release Level is a three decimal place number, like this "7.006". The number to the left of the decimal is the Major Release level. The number to the right of the decimal is the Minor Release Level. Release Level numbers change whenever a new version of the program is released. A Major Release (such as "7.000") contains major improvements like major new features or a major change in user interface or systems platform and is considered to be an "Upgrade". Upgrades are only available for a fee unless you are on the Extended Support Plan.
A Minor Release (such as "7.002") contains minor improvements such as relatively minor new features and error corrections and is considered to be an "Update". Updates are available at no charge to Mastery customers.

Do I have to pay for upgrades and updates?
Mastery offers all program and course updates as free downloads here in the Customer Support Area of our website. A fee is charged for all upgrades.
A complete replacement product is shipped to you when you order a product upgrade. Upgrades are only available to customers who already have a fully paid license for a previous version of the product.
Upgrade fees are always less than the full new licensing cost of the program. You can click this line to order product upgrades. If you are on the Extended Support Plan, the upgrade is free.

Which updates do I need?
You need an update if the release level of your Mastery program is lower than the level appearing below the program title here. For example, if you have release level 7.100 of the Runtime System, you should install the update if it is a higher number, for example 7.101.

How do I know which release I have?
The procedure differs slightly for each system, but all are similar:

For MODIFY™ and the Runtime System (which includes Training Manager), look for the “About” button in the program’s last folder which is named either “Tools”, or “Miscellaneous”.
For STARS, find the “About” button in the “Welcome” folder.

When you click the “About” button the release level (version) will be displayed in a dialog box. The release level is always a three-decimal place number. Example: 6.028

How do I install program updates?
All the program update files in this section are self-installing program files. Simply double-click on the file from Windows Explorer. You can alternatively install an update (or any Mastery product) using the Install Mastery Products program:

Double-click the “Install Mastery Products” icon from the “Training Administration” Program Group.
Select the appropriate item being installed:
“STARS or STARS Update”,
“MODIFY or MODIFY Update”, or
“Runtime Update”.
Select the correct source and target drive letter.
Click “OK”.

What if I want to update many programs and/or courses?
An Update CD-ROM is available from Mastery that contains all program and course updates. With one pass of the “Setup” program, you can automatically update all detected Mastery programs and all detected courses on a system. The Update CD-ROM is free if you subscribe to our Extended Support Plan. ESP Subscribers automatically receive an Update CD-ROM about once a year. There is a $25.00 fee for the CD if you are not a subscriber. You can order here.

Runtime Program Update: Release 7

The Windows Runtime and Training Manager System update (version 7.201 8/29/2001) is contained in one file named “upd7201.exe” or in two diskette-sized files named “upd7201f.exe” and “upd7201f.W02” . To install the Runtime update, use the “Install Mastery Products” icon.

This program will only update a fully installed Release 7.000 or later. If you are on a release that is earlier than 7.000, you can place an Upgrade order for the Mastery Runtime System (full release) here. Upgrade pricing:

Runtime Program Update: Release 6
The Windows Runtime and Training Manager System update (version 6.410 11/22/2000) is contained in one file named “upd6410.exe”. To install the Runtime update, use the “Install Mastery Products” icon. This file will only update a fully installed Release 6.117 or later. If you are on a release that is earlier than 6.117, you can place an order for the Mastery Runtime System (full release) here. If you are on the Extended Support Plan, the full release is free, otherwise the full release fee is $195.00.

MasteryNet™ Player Deployment System Update
(Web Server Files)
The MasteryNet™ Player Deployment System update (version 1.201 8/29/2001) is contained in one file named “UPDMNPDS.EXE”.
YOU DO NOT NEED THIS FILE if you are an end-user and are trying to update your browser's MasteryNet™ Player. To update the MasteryNet Player in your browser simply visit a MasteryNet™ powered training site and take a course. Your browser is automatically updated by the training site's server via its copy of MasteryNet Player Deployment System.
This file will only update a fully installed MasteryNet Player Deployment System.

INSTALLATION NOTE: You should maintain a work copy of MasteryNet Player Deployment System on your local hard drive. You should use this program to update your work copy of the deployment system. Then after the update has successfully completed, upload the revised files to your website to bring the updated system on-line.

STARS Update: WINDOWS Version
The STARS update (version 4.102 5/1/2001) is contained in one file named “UPD4102.EXE”. To install the update, use the “Install Mastery Products” Icon or run UPD4102.EXE from the Program Manager (File>Run).
This file will only update a fully installed Release 4.000 through 4.101 (STARS for Windows). If you do not already have STARS, you can place an order for the full Windows STARS system here. If you want to upgrade your existing STARS for DOS, and are on the Extended Support Plan the full release is free, otherwise the full release upgrade fee is $75.00.
